ALIBRE 3D CAD SOFTWARE INSPIRES ENTREPRENEURS & START-UPS TO CREATE NEW INVENTIONS & GADGETS AT HOME

Alibre Designs Home Theater Speakers, Search & Rescue Robots, & Yo-Yos
Creates New Jobs & Spurs the Economy

Richardson, TX, June 15, 2010 – Alibre Inc. www.alibre.com, the developer of the world’s most affordable professional 3D CAD solutions, today announced new inventions created by Alibre Design users.  Because of today’s economy, people are becoming more creative than ever before, going into business for themselves and inventing new products.  From high-end custom home theater audio speakers, to search and rescue robots, and aerospace grade yo-yos, Alibre is inspiring today’s entrepreneurs to create new inventions, driving the economy and creating jobs.  With the new Alibre Design Personal Edition (launched May 2010 at the Maker Faire), the first low-cost, easy-to-use 3D design tool, it’s even easier for anyone to become an entrepreneur and set-up their own business by creating gadgets, products, and inventions to sell from their homes and garages!

Custom Home Theater Audio Speakers

Linn Audio’s www.linnaudionh.com custom home theater speakers tower at 7 feet tall and have the most beautiful crystal clear sound you have ever heard.  In founder David Linn’s search for perfection, he researched many different ways to make superior speaker cabinets, visiting dozens of cabinet makers.  Linn concluded that the only way to achieve the standard he was searching for was to make the cabinets himself.  He decided to use Alibre Design to create his own custom speakers to his exacting specifications.

Linn used Alibre Design and Alibre CAM software with a CNC machine, making what he calls the “asymmetric hexagon” design of the cabinet.  He designed the panels of the cabinet in Alibre Design and then used Alibre CAM to machine out the parts.  All parts of every speaker:  cabinet materials, drivers, crossover components, wiring, damping materials, were chosen for sonic quality.  The result is a completely handmade, beautiful piece of furniture, with sounds to satisfy the most demanding music lover.

“I like how in Alibre Design you can draw a rough sketch of the part you need to make and then go back and dimension it to exact specifications,” said David Linn, Founder of Linn Audio.

Search & Rescue Robots

Francisco Rodriguez, a Mechanical Engineering Masters student at the University of New Mexico, used Alibre Design in the MARHES Lab to create a robot based on the TXT-1 monster truck from Tamiya.  The robot was used to make simulations in a virtual world, with the ultimate goal to create a search & rescue robot.  Each robot was outfitted with a control board, various sensors, and an onboard embedded computer.

Using Alibre Design’s powerful 3D tools, Rodriguez added an odometer and extra shock absorber on each of the front wheels and an aluminum plate to support the sensors and computer. “Learning how to use the basic functions of the software was really easy, plus the tutorials were helpful when I didn’t know how to do something,” said Francisco Rodriguez, MARHES Lab, University of New Mexico.

He then developed algorithms to efficiently fulfill specific search & rescue tasks by communicating through network systems, cameras, and ultrasonic ranger sensors.  These robots later would give aid to humanitarian rescue missions, for example, the recent earthquake in Italy.  “This technology could be implemented to search for victims in mine fields, collapsed buildings, or for structural inspection,” Rodriguez concluded.

High-Tech Precision Yo-Yo for Serious Players

String Theory Yoyos’ www.stringtheoryyoyos.com Remnant yo-yo is the first product from owner and designer Mark Mankiewicz.  Using Alibre Design software, Mankiewicz engineered a new professional grade yo-yo that’s precision machined for maximum stability and balanced-rim weighted for maximum spin time.

String Theory Yoyos began with the idea of designing a top-of-the-line precision yo-yo made from aerospace grade aluminum and premium steel bearings.  Mankiewicz devised the two butterfly-bell halves to form an exact weight.  “Alibre allowed me to calculate the physical properties after each design change so I could ensure I was within regulation.  After I sent them to get machined, the virtual prototype and reality matched to within .5 grams,” said Mark Mankiewicz, owner String Theory Yoyos. “Yo-yos may seem like toys, but there is a lot of physics going on in terms of getting an optimal one.  I performed a cross-sectional weight distribution analysis to get the weight perfect for maximum spin time.”

Working in Alibre Design Expert to make a sketch of the body and revolving it around the axis, Mankiewicz then cut away the bearing seat to allow for a special high-end stainless steel yo-yo bearing.  He also designed special grooves for silicon pads that cause friction on the side walls allowing the yoyo to come back up quickly.  The end result is a yo-yo meant for serious players with a bright and vibrant anodized aluminum coat that comes in jet black, blood red or midnight blue.
